What is this website all about?

For many years now there has been dysfunction within the Board of Directors of the Model Aeronautics Association of Canada (MAAC) and increasing secrecy about their actions.  Not only has there been secrecy, over matters that are of great significance to the Association’s membership, there has been active suppression of the facts.  This has prevented the membership from being properly informed, which is a critical aspect of organizational governance.  Many members of MAAC have requested a means with which to communicate and these requests have fallen on deaf ears.

It is the mission of this website to provide access to what is going on at MAAC, and what has gone on in the recent past, as far as it is possible to ascertain those things, so that the membership can make informed decisions when they are called upon to vote.  MAAC is your association, you should be well-informed about the truth of the situations that you find your association in.  The only purpose of this website is to build up, not to tear down, and to facilitate that objective by providing, as far as is possible, for the membership to be widely informed.

For a long time now, it has been proclaimed that MAAC is enjoying greater and greater ‘transparency’.  The fact has been that it has suffered greater and greater secrecy.  That secrecy, combined with the fact that members have no channels in which to express concerns, alternatives, or opposition to the leadership’s proposals, can lead to apathy.  Members who are not aware of problems are not likely to work for change.  Surely we can all recognize now that change is needed – but if we don’t know what the root causes of our challenges are we will not be able to recognize the nature of the changes that are called for.  This website is intended to remedy those shortcomings, it is intended to influence the leadership of MAAC towards a more open, inclusive, and constructive future.

There are those among the leadership who think that there is some distinction between the membership and the association – that is a false conception, there is no association save for its members – YOU!  Their responsibility is to act in the best interests of the Corporation – which means in the best interests of its members.  The only distinction that there should be is that no action should be taken that is in the best interests of a portion of the membership – if that is against the interests of another portion of the membership – that would not be in the interests of the membership (and thus the Corporation) as a whole.

Over time, pages will be added to this site, providing you with details of different issues, past and present, that deserve your knowledge and attention.  As far as is possible the information provided will be supported by documentation – you will be able to judge whether you have been well-informed previously, or are being so today.  The object of this exercise is to bring MAAC to a more responsible and responsive position.
